I’m sure
that this question will continue to come up in the next few weeks
(because I’m promoting the anticipated completion of my book), so I
thought that I’d spend a little time here and address the question–what
motivated me to write this book?
This book, “The Top 25 Things that You Can Do to Change Your Life
For the Better…Forever,” was written as both a labor of love and as an
antidotal diary that addressed what I did to return to healthy after a
serious heart related health crisis almost two years ago.
I was completely blindsided by the combination of post-Katrina
stress (I am a Hurricane Katrina survivor), the loss of my livelihood
(I was a displaced mortgage broker), and faced the challenges of
starting all over again at 50-years of age in a new city.
A former elite athlete, the physical and health trauma was like being slammed into a brick wall.
At the bursting point, my blood pressure was out of control, my once
athletic and muscled frame ballooned, and my heart reacted by beating
uncontrollably fast (arterial fibrillation).
Fortunately, I landed in a good hospital and despite flat-lining
twice in the early stages of treatment, I walked out of the hospital
some 25 days later with what I considered, a chance to put the train
back on the tracks.
The problem here is that even though the medical staff and recovery
nurses give you lots of information in the form of don’t do this and
avoid that, the responsibility falls on the patient to do the due
diligence if you are really interested in recovery.
So, as a result of my research and practical application of
strategies that made sense, I implemented a plan that has enabled me to
return to the land of the living.
- I’ve lost approximately 80 pounds.
- I’ve gotten much of my strength back by employing a simple, but effective exercise strategy.
- I’ve learned ways to relax.
- I’ve begun to carve out a new career by actually returning to an old one–I write and speak.
- I’ve ridded myself of toxic people and situations that tend to create negative impacts.
- I’ve learned how to focus (again).
- I now live “on purpose”.
- I’ve learned about nutrition and by-passed all of the junk that is
advertised to find out what and why I should eat as I now do. And
guess what, I do not starve myself and neither am I on any fad diet.
- I’ve learned about techniques that any body can use to find the work that they’ll do with passion.
- I’ve learned how to manage and in some cases eliminate stress.
- I’ve learned about how changing my drinking water and even my toothpaste can change my entire life.
I’ve learned a lot that I share in the book. I personally believe
that everyone should have a copy because it represents research that I
did to become what my doctors call “their miracle patient.”
By the way, I feel great.
How are you feeling?
